Just yesterday in Massachusetts: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bnlj-wSI4Bg (more info at https://newbedfordlight.org/lawyer-federal-agents-detain-guatemalan-man-29-with-no-criminal-record and https://www.bostonglobe.com/2025/04/15/metro/immigrant-arrest-new-bedford-light/ )

ICE (gleefully, as many have observed) smashes a car window when the family is in their car, on the phone with their lawyer, recording the whole thing.

Thank you for recommending I the video. I did watch it. And I have to tell you—it rattled me.

There’s a difference between understanding something intellectually and being forced to feel it. Watching federal agents shatter that car window while Juan and Marilú waited for their lawyer—nonviolent, unarmed, terrified—brought that difference into sharp focus. They were ambushed. Hunted. Treated not as people, but as threats to be neutralized.

This wasn’t immigration enforcement. This was intimidation by design.

And yes, as I wrote in the article, ICE increasingly resembles an American Gestapo—not because we want to be dramatic, but because we have to name what’s actually happening. Door-busting raids without warrants. Children held at gunpoint. Civil proceedings carried out with military-grade force. That’s not policy. That’s state terror.

It’s easier for some people to ignore this until they see it on camera—until the violence is too loud, too close, too visceral to explain away.

So thank you for making sure I didn’t look away. We need more people doing exactly that.
